Tried it out based on Yelp reviews but it was lunchtime, wanted lunch. .Maybe breakfast is down home diner fare, but lunch was horrible. "Country Fried Steak" with 2 sides was a breaded chicken (yes, chicken?) Patty with watery out of the box macaroni and cheese a la Kraft and Collard Greens were from a can. Yuck and just wrong. Hubby's Philly cheesesteak was sparse . Fries were undercooked. The waitress was young, obviously family and either very shy or very bored. You just can't call yourself a diner with these confitions. I'd try breakfast but it was so bad I'm never going back.

The service was excellent. The burger and fries were fine. Nothing amazing, but fine. But everything else we had was pretty bad. The chili was awful -- it was like canned chili with tabasco sauce added. Really salty. To top it off, the saltines were stale. I used the chili as a dip for our fries. But otherwise I left it alone. Our chocolate milkshake was terrible -- really milky and didn't taste like chocolate. We asked for more ice cream. The waitress kindly gave us more ice cream in the shake, but somehow it still tasted pretty bland. I will not be coming back. Nice people -- but the recipes need to be redone.

Delicious food, warm atmosphere, and friendly service. I felt as if I was eating in my own grandmother's home. Definitely a diner to visit!!

I love this place! I always leave stuffed and happy. I go there all the time with my friends and family. The best breakfast in town and the nicest family that runs it.

Great meals all around! There was plenty of selection on the menu and every dish we ordered was delicious. Definitely a "grandma's kitchen" atmosphere. A good restaurant to take both family and friends. :)

Best breakfast ever. Husband and I try to go every Saturday. Great staff too! And reasonable prices.

Grandma's Diner is a Charles Town diamond that is on the far side of town that is tucked away. Grandma & her family that runs the diner are super sweet & will bend over backwards to make anything you are craving as long as they have the ingredients. I suggest the tamales & frijoles negro (AMAZING!) My body does not get along with beans, but I cannot resist grandmas beans! They also do a wonderful job on anything else you order! Do not let the outside of this place or the decor keep you away from this place or you are missing out. This place belongs on Triple D ( foodnetwork.com/food-net… )

The staff was incredibly friendly, going out of their way to tell us all the town had to offer for visitors like us! Good for a lite lunch, would go back in a heartbeat

Friendly breakfast diner. Cheap, fast service. Good breakfast (especially liked the Mexican Breakfast- but would liked if they had put Mexican cheese-not cheddar - on the dish). Overall a friendly and cheap/good breakfast option in Charles Town. I will be back :)

Cheap, good food with friendly service. Try the Mexican breakfast, which is a mess of eggs, chorizo, beef, onions and peppers served on three corn tortillas. $8.00 out the door for breakfast with coffee. I want to return for lunch (homemade tamales).
